If you like to fish this is the
place. There are about the same number of
fly-fishing stores as groceries, always a good sign.
Trout is the fish, Cutthroat, Rainbow, Brook and
Brown are all here. Fishermen fly in from all over
to fish the local hotspots. The Teton, The South
Fork and Henry Fork of the Snake are all blue ribbon
trout streams. The South Fork of the Snake River is
open to fishing year round with no limit on Rainbow
Trout. Tributaries join all of the main rivers where
it is possible to fish all day and never see another
fisherman. In the
southern end of Teton Valley is a fishing pond open
to everyone, stocked weekly with Rainbows taken out
of the fish trips in the Snake River. What ever
comes out of the trap goes into the pond, it maybe
the only kiddy pond in the world with 8 pound trout.
It’s a great place to teach your kids to fish and to
work on your casting. Of course, the trout pond at
Darby Ranch is even closer; we just don’t stock it
as often or with such big fish.
Yellowstone is open to fishing
on a catch and release basis only. Yet it remains
one of the premier trout fishing locations in the
world. Sometimes you have to keep an eye on the
Bison grazing behind you as you cast, but you do
what you have to do. |
